Koei Tecmo announced in its latest financials that one of the new console game IP it's currently developing, with the aim for it to sell over 5 million copies, will now be releasing sometime after 2022. The latest financials from Koei Tecmo were published on October 26, and cover the second quarter of the ongoing Japanese fiscal year, ending with March 2021. In the document, page 15, Koei Tecmo explained the delay of this new IP.

Koei Tecmo mentions: "Reasons behind the delay: Taking advantage of the high performances of the new consoles. Giving our original title the appropriate level of quality for a game that aims to sell over 5 million copies."

In other words, the delay will serve to make this new IP even better and perfectly geared towards next-gen. With this, Koei Tecmo also confirmed this new IP is specifically developed for PS5 and / or Xbox Series X.

Koei Tecmo first revealed back in 2018 the plans for this new ambitious IP that aims to sell at least 5 million copies. That was in its financial results report for the fiscal year that ended with March 2018. The report was published on April 26, 2018. The game in itself was never fully revealed, and we don't know anything about it, be it its genre, story, characters, or actual title. The only thing we know is that it's an highly ambitious project, and a brand new IP.

Lastly, it's important to note that Koei Tecmo President Yoichi Erikawa mentioned in April 2020 that this "5 million selling game is almost in its final development phase".

Koei Tecmo, in its latest financials, also mentions it aims to release each financial year at least one console game that will sell between 2 and 5 million copies.

Koei Tecmo will launch Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity on Switch on November 20. And Atelier Ryza 2 on PC via Steam, PS4, PS5, and Switch, on January 26.
