Late last month, developer Black Hive took to Kickstarter seeking $28,000 USD for the development of its side-scrolling action RPG Kova.

At the time, the game was only announced for PC, but yesterday, Black Hive confirmed its plans to port the game to consoles -- specifically to the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One -- after development of the PC release sometime in 2018.  This news comes after the developer initially opted to not commit to a console version due to a lack of resources. And seeming the game's Kickstarter has only raised $4,695 USD of the $28,000 goal (with 22 days to go) it's unclear what changed.

Backers pledging at Mercenary tiers and above will have the choice between redeeming their copy of Kova on Steam at release, or waiting for the release on the console system of their choice.

Mandy Lowry of Black Hive accompanied the announcement with the following statement:

"The moment we went independent a little over a year ago, we knew that we wanted to develop for console. We quickly signed up and applied with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo to become official developers, and the moment we received our first dev kit we immediately started prototyping for console and backer enthusiasm for a console version comforted them in this direction."

For those that don't know: In Kova, you appropriately take on the role of Kova, a mercenary-explorer surviving through tough times as she crosses the galaxy and tries to answer one of the universe’s greatest mysteries: why has humanity never encountered intelligent alien life?
