Last Gen Versions of Dying Light Cancelled Due to Technological Constraints

The upcoming open-world zombie title Dying Light will now be coming only to current gen consoles, developer Techland says.

Originally slated for release on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the last gen versions of the game were cancelled due the technological limitations of the older consoles.

Put simply, older consoles just couldn’t run the game and stay true to the core vision of Dying Light at the same time.

Techland said that they were proud of the “next-gen feel” they had created with Dying Light, but noted that this feel was a combination of a variety of technological advancements, including physics based lighting and increased object rendering.

After consideration, the company decided that removing some of these features to allow the game to run on older consoles would simply detract too much from the overall game.

Dying Light is set for release January 2015 on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
