Since its debut over a decade ago, the Halo series has not been lacking in story and lore, with numerous games, graphic novels, books, and more pieces of media contributing to the ever-expanding universe of the game series, with the latest novel set to arrive this coming spring.

Over on the Halo Waypoint blog, a new novel titled Halo: New Blood has been announced, taking players back into the world of 2009's Halo 3: ODST, setting readers into the eyes of Gunnery Sgt. Edward Buck, one of the main characters from the standalone campaign and who was voiced by Firefly's Nathan Fillion.

Written by author Matt Forbeck (previously of the Guild Wars-inspired book, Ghosts of Ascalon), the new novel will dig deeper into Buck's past along with those of his squadmates, as Forbeck himself detailed in the blog post:

"I absolutely loved Halo 3: ODST myself, and I always wanted to know more about Buck and his teammates too. When you finish the game, there are so many unanswered questions about who Buck is and what's going to happen to him. This became my chance to fill in a lot of the blanks in his past and even help chart out his future, and I could not have been more honored."

Halo: New Blood will release on March 2nd, 2015, with the work to be released as a digital-first short novel.
