Week six of the regular season of the 2022 League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) summer split has officially concluded. With the playoff stage now on the horizon, every game became vital for teams like KT Rolster, DRX, and Liiv SANDBOX to secure their place. Playoff teams will likely be confirmed by the end of next week.

Kwangong Freecs is currently three games away from the playoff places, while Nongshim RedForce, Hanwha Life Esports and Fredit BRION are out of contention. The bottom teams this split are notably less competitive than usual but watching the ongoing race between T1 and GEN to claim the top spot is keeping the league entertaining.

This week hosted a plethora of action-fuelled games between the middle-of-the-pack teams. DRX escaped with a 2-1 win against Damwon KIA to widen their gap over the Kwangdong Freecs, while the latter team could not fix their issues as they fell to both T1 and Liiv SANDBOX. If they had won one of these series, KDF would have had a fighting chance at playoffs but unfortunately, the team did not rise to the task. For those who missed the games, here is our recap of week six of the LCK summer split.

Lightning didn't strike twice for T1

After DRX and DWG KIA trounced their respective opponents on the first day, T1 stepped under the spotlight to take their revenge on the Kwangdong Freecs. In case you forgot, KDF left their mark on the summer season by ending T1's phenomenal winning streak just a couple of weeks ago. However, they are now struggling to find their way out of a losing streak that has seen them fall out of the playoff places. Even though KDF took the series to the third match, this time Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok spoke stepped in and put on a performance that prevented T1 from being bested by KDF again.

GEN, on the other hand, went up against Hanwha Life Esports, one of the weakest teams in the league who have been struggling all split long. GEN breezed past Liiv Sandbox on Friday and although they looked shaky at points during that series, they handily defeated Hanwha Life to extend their winning streak to four games.

Gen.G set their eyes on the LCK title

Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon and his teammates have looked like title threats all split long. With the help of an intense boot camp in the offseason, GEN looks like they have a fantastic grasp of the current meta. Well-designed draft strategies, strong macro decision-making and polished communication make GEN long-term threats to the T1 powerhouse. Gen.G is also a team that learns from its mistakes and is quick to adapt to the changing meta.

Week seven will host the most important game of the regular season so far as GEN face T1 on Saturday. You can watch the hotly-anticipated series on the official LCK Twitch channel.
