The Japanesee statistics firm Media Create released its weekly analysis of the state of the Japanese market for the seven days between September 25th and October 5th. This time around, they're focusing on the performance of  The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III, which was released exclulively for PS4, selling 87,261 units in its debut week.

In comparison, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II sold 152,000 units in its first week, split between PS Vita and PS3. This is a rather significant loss in sales.

The Legend of Heroes series has been mostly developed for portable PlayStation consoles through its semi-recent history, and the platform split for the second chapter was 86,000 copies on PS Vita and 65,000 on PS3.

According to Media Create, the new game failed to capture the demand for a PS Vita version, which appears to still be large. Since it's a numbered sequel, releasing only for PS4 caused an opportunity loss for the series that the firm defines "painful."

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III released in Japan on September 28th, exclusively for PS4. No western release date has been announced for the moment, but in our latest interview with Nihon Falcom President Toshihiro Kondo, he seemed to hint quite strongly that it will come at some point.
