Following a mention at the latest financial briefing, and a tease from yesterday, Nihon Falcom announced today the fourth chapter of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel series, aptly named The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV – The End of Saga.

And yes, that’s not a typo, the subtitle missing a “the” is official.  That being said, as you may very well imagine, this is the last game of the Trails of Cold Steel series.

The title will be released exclusively for PS4 in Japan. The officially-announced release window is fall 2018, which is pretty precise unless plans have changed. The developer mentioned in its latest financial report that it would come in the current fiscal year, which ends on September 30th. The resulting window is basically just limited to September, which make sense, considering past releases.

If you’re wondering, PS4 exclusivity has been officially mentioned by the developer, even if this doesn’t exactly rule out future ports, especially to PC.

It’s the sequel to The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III, that was released in Japan at the end of September (and is still waiting for a localization announcement). The first two games are currently available only for PS4 and PS Vita (with the first also on steam).

Recently, Falcom announced the remasters The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel I: Kai – Thors Military Academy 1204 and The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II: Kai – The Erebonian Civil War for PS4, releasing on March 8th and on April 26th, 2018 respectively. No western localization has been announced for those either.

Incidentally, we also get a sales update and we hear that the whole series has shipped 1.2 million copies worldwide.

Below you can enjoy the first screenshots, the key artwork, and the logo. Under the gallery, you can also find the first summary of the story. Of course, it can be considered a spoiler if you have not played the third game, so read it only if you don’t mind.

Incidentally, you may also find something rather peculiar and interesting in the screenshots (Specifically, the last one behind the logo), so check it out at your own risk.

Below you can find the somewhat spoilery story summary. Keep your eyes off it if you want to play the previous chapters without info about what’ll come after.

“Due to the invocation of the “Great Inal Twilight” a terrible curse has been unleashed on the Empire. Even the Grey Knight Rean Schwarzer has lost himself, swallowed by demonic power. As the world hurtles towards the end, what will the old and new members of Class VII do? “
