The Lego Star Wars Series Will Have a New Entry, Rumored to Be a "Complete Saga"
A new Lego Star Wars video game is said to be in development, just in time for the upcoming movie Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Licensed Lego games from developer Traveller’s Tales all started with the Lego Star Wars games, and according to some rumors coming out of the Star Wars Celebration Convention, fans may get a sort of “ultimate collection” sometime soon. A slip of the tongue from General Grievous voice actor and Skywalker Sound editor Matthew Wood, along with sources for Eurogamer, indicate that a new game is indeed in development.
It is probably safe to assume that everyone with an internet connection and a taste for modern popular culture has seen the teaser for the next Star Wars movie, titled The Rise of Skywalker. The teaser featured Rey basically fighting a spaceship on a desert, so now I expect to see this scene in Lego form. With this film releasing in theaters this Christmas season, it wouldn’t be far off to expect a new game to tie in. The last game in the series to release was Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
That video game depicted not only the 2015 film but also events that occurred between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens—since the release of that game, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a movie that has inspired heated passions for one reason or another, also released. With the prequel and original trilogies forming a Lego game each, intuition may point to a sequel trilogy game.
But in reporting Wood’s slip of a new Lego Star Wars game, which came as he namedropped all of the upcoming Star Wars media coming up soon, Eurogamer added that this next game is an “ambitious project.” While this next game will undoubtedly contain content inspired by The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, it is also rumored to carry the entire saga.
And there is certainly precedent for this—after the first two games contained the prequel and original trilogies each, a new release appropriately titled The Complete Saga combined both of those games. Add the sequels, and you get the most complete-est saga one could have. There was even a third numbered title in the Lego Star Wars series, based on the popular The Clone Wars animated series that is making a return.
With Star Wars Celebration all wrapped up as of today without an official confirmation on the game, and all focus on Jedi: Fallen Order, we’ll have to wait a little longer for any further information.
