Both LiSA, singer of Demon Slayer Mugen Train theme song Homura, and Tatsuhisa Suzuki, her husband who most notably voices Makoto in Free!, announced on August 4 they're going on hiatus, taking a break from most of their activities, and there's a specific reason behind their decision.

Why are both LiSA and Tatsuhisa Suzuki putting their activities on partial hiatus?

First, let's take a look at the official announcements. On the LiSA official site, the statement explains LiSA needs some time to rest and recover from physical and mental fatigue, and will temporarily cease her activities. LiVE is Smile Always~LADYBUG~, the live concert she was supposed to hold on August 7 and 8 at Marine Messe Fukuoka, was also canceled.

Meanwhile, Tatsuhisa Suzuki announced through his own official site and agency that he has been in poor physical condition these past few days, making it difficult to carry on with his normal activities. He apologized for the inconvenience and concern caused to those supporting him and said he will partially put his activities on hiatus.

However, the real reason behind the hiatus announcements is Tatsuhi Suzuki himself. On July 30, Japanese outlet Bunshun Online published an article with allegations against Tatsuhisa Suzuki. Stating that he's having an affair with one of his fans, a woman in her 20s. The article was well researched and included a photo as evidence, making it very likely to be all true.

Who is anime singer LiSA? Rise to Anison stardom explained

LiSA is an incredibly talented Anison (anime song) singer, who rose to stardom with the 2010 anime Angel Beats! . Written by Jun Maeda, the co-founder of visual novel game studio Key (Kanon, Air, Clannad, Planetarian, Little Busters, etc) Angel Beats is both a comedy and a tragedy following a group of students in a high school located in the afterlife. You should definitely watch Angel Beats if you haven't yet.

LiSA was the singing voice of one of the main characters of Angel Beats, Yui, who was the second vocalist of in-series band Girls Dead Monster. Outside of concerts, Yui was voiced by Eri Kitamura.

Later, LiSA handled theme songs for tons of incredibly popular anime worldwide: Fate/Zero, Sword Art Online, and the recent Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train movie.

Fans of LiSA in Japan have been rallying behind her, with "LiSAさん" (LiSA san) trending on Twitter. The majority of fans show support, hope she will recover, and will wait however long it takes for her to come back.

LiSA announced her marriage to Tatsuhisa Suzuki in January 2020. Suzuki is a seiyuu who voiced several characters such as Yuji Sakamoto in Bakatest, (another comedy anime you should watch alongside Angel Beats if you haven't yet), or Makoto Tachibana in Free - Iwatobi Swim Club. He's also voicing Ranmaru Kurosaki in the popular male idols franchise Utapri. Lastly, Tatsuhisa Suzuki is also part of a band called OLDCODEX. They did theme songs for Free and Kuroko's Basket most notably.

I wish LiSA a speedy recovery and I hope she will manage to recover from all this. You can always reach out to me on Twitter @A_iyane07 if you need someone to share your feelings with, or simply wanna chat about how awesome Angel Beats is.

OLDCODEX steps down from Free movie theme song role, new Tatsuhisa Suzuki rumor (August 18 update)

The official site for Free! The Final Stroke announced on August 17 that the theme song collaboration between the movie and OLDCODEX, the rock band Tatsuhisa Suzuki is part of, has been put on hold. Seeing the band and Suzuki are both in hiatus.

Moreover, while a trailer was supposed to be revealed on August 19, it was now postponed to find a replacement for the theme song. Additional details will be announced on August 20.

Furthermore, a rumor has been circulating on Japanese Twitter, claiming that Tatsuhisa Suzuki attempted to take his own life after LiSA discovered he was cheating. This rumor started with an article from Shujoprime.

However the article itself has no source, and no other site has reported it either, so it's highly likely to be a hoax. There are several Japanese fans defending LiSA on Twitter, sharing messages such as "whether it's a hoax or the truth, I want Tatsuhisa Suzuki to stop running away from the result of his actions". Using a certain panel from Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba, with Tanjiro screaming "don't run away from your responsibilities!".

Despite the scandal and OLDCODEX's theme song being put on hold, I'd personally say it's unlikely that Tatsuhisa Suzuki will get replaced as the voice of Makoto or loose his career as a seiyuu. Daisuke Namikawa, another veteran and popular seiyuu (Persona 4's protagonist, Sekigahara Ei in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim) was found cheating too several years ago. And that ultimately didn't affect his career much. He recently voiced one of the main characters in Buddy Mission Bond.

Right now, Free! The Final Stroke is still set to release on September 17 in Japanese theaters. Part 2 of the movie is scheduled for April 22, 2022.
