Live A Live Trademarked by Square Enix in Australia

Square Enix has trademarked the Squaresoft SNES RPG Live A Live so perhaps new developments related to it could be coming soon.

Square Enix has trademarked Live A Live in Australia on July 2, 2020. (Thanks to Gematsu for pointing it out).

As a reminder, this is a JRPG released on Super Famicom by Squaresoft on September 2, 1994. It uses a pretty cool Tactical RPG battle system and has different stories you can follow. Each story has a particular theme and more or less parodies something, so you can have a lot of fun with it whether you’re a mecha anime otaku, a fighting game otaku, a sci-fi otaku, etc.

Moreover, this RPG was directed by Takashi Tokita, who also directed Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve, and The Bouncer, the true masterpiece of Nomura character designs right above Subarashiki Kono Sekai and Kingdom Hearts.Takashi Tokita was also the Lead Game Designer on Final Fantasy IV. and more recently worked on Oninaki, the latest RPG by Square Enix affiliated studio Tokyo RPG Factory. Check our Oninaki review here.

Live A Live Megalomania

Live A Live also features an awesome soundtrack by Yoko Shimomura and is one of the many inspirations for Undertale.

The game never left Japan but was fan-translated in multiple languages including English and French. it’s also particularly popular in Japan, and was re released on the Wii U and New Nintendo 3DS virtual consoles. This game is a pretty big classic overall. As such, a new release similarly to Chrono Trigger on PC and an official localization would definitely be nice. Multiple old Squaresoft classics have been localized for the first time recently, such as Seiken Densetsu 3 (followed by its remake Trials of Mana) or the Romancing SaGa series, so it’s not impossible.

Square Enix announced it will be revealing multiple new titles from July to August. Perhaps something related to this trademarking will be among these announcements. We’ll keep you in touch if anything happens. Like Ulala would say, stay tuned.
