Loop Hero Announced as a Deck Building Roguelike, Hitting PC Next Year

Devolver Digital's 2021 Game of the Year will be hitting PC soon.

At this year’s Game Awards, Devolver Digital, in their typical and distinctive style, handed out their own gong, the “Devolver Digital 2021 Game of the Year Award“. The award saw five nominees, that consisted of Shadow Warrior 3Olija, Card Shark, Weird West and Boomerang X, battle it out for the top honour.

As you’d expect with Devolver however, things didn’t go exactly to plan and none of the nominated titles won the award. Instead, the previously unannounced Loop Hero scooped up the award and at the same time was revealed to the world.

Loop Hero is a deck building roguelike that’s being created by developers Four Quarters. The game is described as:

“The Lich has thrown the world into a timeless loop and plunged its inhabitants into never ending chaos. Wield an expanding deck of mystical cards to place enemies, buildings, and terrain along each unique expedition loop for the brave hero. Recover and equip powerful loot for each class of hero for their battles and expand the survivors’ camp to reinforce each adventure through the loop. Unlock new classes, new cards, and devious guardians on your quest to shatter the endless cycle of despair.”

The game looks to have a charming aesthetic and music, reminiscent of early strategy and RPG games but manages to combine a range of genres that weren’t historically prevalent.

The game will be launching on PC via Steam in early 2021 and can be wishlisted right now.
