The original Luigi's Mansion -- while not critically loved in its time -- is a cult classic among Nintendo fans. There has been more than a few call to action from the Nintendo fanbase to get a Virtual Console release. However, it appears that fans can grab the game revamped on Nintendo 3DS this year.

Revealed in today's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed that Luigi's Mansion is planning to come to Nintendo 3DS this year. Sporting a brand new Boss Rush mode, the game will sport updated controls and similar revitalizations. Specifically, Nintendo boasts an "updated look" which is likely a reskin based on the assets already available.

Luigi's Mansion is no stranger to the Nintendo 3DS -- a sequel by Next Level Games titled Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon came out on the Nintendo 3DS a half-decade ago, on March 24, 2013. In other words, it shouldn't be hard for Nintendo to port over the assets and control scheme for the original game.

For those who forgot about the original, Luigi's Mansion launched on the Nintendo GameCube on November 18, 2001 -- short of two-decades ago. Feel old yet?

As mentioned above, Luigi's Mansion will come out on Nintendo 3DS sometime in 2018. Of course, you could always boot up your Nintendo GameCube to play the original.
