Following Madden 11‘s athlete box art procedure, you (the fans) can once again choose the cover athlete of a Madden video game. From now until April 27th, simply head over to ESPN.com to vote in a bracket-style tournament for your favorite or most deserving NFL athlete who will then appear on the Madden 12 game cover. If that doesn’t satisfy you, Madden NFL’s facebook page is hosting their own cover athlete bracket competition. Followers can create their own athlete bracketts and put them up against other competitors for a chance to win prizes ranging from Super Bowl tickets to the actual Madden NFL 12 game.
“ESPN is proud to continue its tradition of serving fans by collaborating with EA SPORTS and putting the cover vote of Madden NFL 12 in their hands,” said Raphael Poplock, Vice President, Games & Digital Partnerships, ESPN. “We believe ESPN provides the perfect platform for fans to be heard, and encourage everyone to support their favorite representative in this bracket-style vote.”
The players in the official ESPN bracket were “selected and seeded based on a variety of criteria including on-the-field performance during the 2010 NFL season, their visibility within their franchise and community, and their personal career journey.” The only problem I have with that is the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals candidates. Danny Woodhead got a position on the bracket over Tom Brady and Carlos Dunlap got a spot over Chad Ochocinco. Tom Brady wasn’t the 2010 (unanimous) league MVP and Chad Ochocinco isn’t an NFL all-star for nothing. Be sure to check the bracket every week for each different round!
