Steins;Gate’s Chiyomaru Shikura Wants to Make Madoka Magica, Eva, Your Name “Elite” Games

Mages' Chiyomaru Shikura really wants to make an ADV game adapting Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Can it actually happen though?

As you already know, last week’s Famitsu magazine included a huge interview with Mages’ Chiyomaru Shikura. Near the end of the interview, he partly explained the upcoming Steins;Gate 10th anniversary plans and shared his wish to make Steins;Gate Zero Elite. Following that, he also mentioned he’d like to make similar ADV games for Neon Genesis Evangelion, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and Your Name:

Chiyomaru Shikura: “Also, I already said that multiple times in the past, but I really want to make an “Eva Elite” game. And a “MadoMagi Elite” and “Kimi no Na wa. Elite”. Kimi no Na Wa. especially would work really well with multiple routes, but that’s just me being delusional *laughs*”.

Personally, among those three, I think the game adaptation by Mages with the best chances of becoming real would me Madoka Magica. Chiyomaru Shikura is obviously acquainted with Nitroplus’ Gen Urobuchi, MadoMagi‘s writer, so technically, it could happen one day with the two of them working together.

Ultimately though, it’ll depends on Aniplex (Sony), who owns the franchise’s rights, and whether they believe a game like this will make money.

So far, MadoMagi got multiple game adaptations:

  • Madoka Magica Portable, released on March 15, 2012 on PSP in Japan.
  • Madoka Magica Mobage, a mobile gacha game on the Mobage platform. It closed down on November 18, 2012.
  • Madoka Magica Online, a free to play browser game which closed down on May 28, 2015.
  • Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Battle Pentagram, an action game released on PlayStation Vita on December 19, 2013 in Japan. It was developed by Artdink.
  • Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story, the ongoing mobile gacha game that launched in August 2017.

Magia Record is pretty popular. Like every gacha game in summer it’s currently having swimsuit-themed events. Magia Record already got s stage play adaptation, a manga adaptation, and a one cour long anime in 2020, with more anime scheduled to come. Mobile + gacha is the biggest game market for years now in Japan, so the chances of a console Madoka Magica game happening now are kinda slim.

We summarized the whole Chiyomaru Shikura & Steins;Gate 10th anniversary interview through multiple articles. He talked about Colopl buying Mages, how’s it going with Anonymous;Code, and a possible crossover with all of the Science Adventure Series.

Note that Famitsu published the whole interview online on August 13 if you’re interested in reading it in Japanese.
