Earlier in March, 2K Games officially revealed that Hanger 13 would be sharing more details about its upcoming projects "in the coming months." Now, it seems the time has come to see something new from the Mafia series as the official Twitter account of the franchise shared a new tweet after nearly two years of silence.

While the tweet doesn't reveal much about what's going on behind the scene, at least it does notify us of an upcoming announcement related to the series. If you take a look back at the rumors around Mafia 2 and Mafia 3 Definitive Editions, it might be a bit simple to find out what we should expect from 2K Games. The remastered version of Mafia 2 has already listed in the national game rating system of South Korea, along with the Definitive Edition of Mafia 3 for PC and current-gen platforms. Sometime later, both of the mentioned titles spotted on the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee as well.

That said, the teased announcement might also provide a sneak peek on the next mainline entry of the Mafia series. Previously, it was discovered through Hanger 13's job listing page that the developer is working on a brand new IP, which caused some rumors suggesting that Mafia 4 won't be developed by the team behind the latest entry of the franchise.

With the poor reviews that Mafia 3 received after launch from fans and media, the game was far below the expectations in almost every major aspect. Repetitive and tedious level design, outdated visuals and tons of technical issues, and a predictable story without any impressing plot twists, all lead to the failure of the game. Having said that, the game brought a remarkable success for 2K Games in terms of sales. With over 5 million unit sales, Mafia 3 is one of the best-selling titles in the history of 2K.
