Makai Wars by Nippon Ichi Finally Re-Revealed After 13 Years, but there Is a Catch
After thirteen years since the initial announcement, Makai Wars is actually coming, but it will be a mobile title for iOS and Android.
A long time ago, at E3 2004, Nippon Ichi Software announced Makai Wars for PSP. The publisher changed its tune a year later, at Tokyo Game Show 2005, where it announced that the title would be switched to PlayStation 3.
Makai Wars was a strategy RPG featuring Asagi as its main protagonist. After that, the game fell into obscurity, and nothing specific was announced besides a few teases. Ultimately, many fans started to mention it as a joke, believing that Asagi would never, ever have her own game.
That proved to be inaccurate.
Today, after thirteen years, Makai Wars has finally been re-revealed during Nippon Ichi’s 25th anniversary livestream on Nico Nico from the e-Sports Square venue in Akihabara, Tokyo.
That being said, there is a catch: of course, the game isn’t coming for either PSP or PS3. As a matter of fact, It has been completely shifted away from consoles and will be released for iOS and Android. President Souhei Niikawa described it as a mix between YoruDorashiru and the Disgaea series.
No release window was announced at the event, but we did see a few pictures of gameplay (which will remain of the straregy RPG variety), artwork of some of the many new characters that will come with the game, and a teaser trailer. You can check them all out below.
