Developer Tripwire Interactive birthed a new genre, the "shark-pg," when they released Maneater into the wild earlier this year. Despite being met with some mixed reviews, it was a huge part of the gaming conversation when it launched back in May. Now,

" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Maneater is getting a next-gen update for when the new consoles launch in November. The shark-based role-playing game will be available day one for both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S in both digital and physical editions. The announcement Tweet " target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">from the official Maneater Twitter account makes it clear that the next-gen update will be free for all "current-gen owners."

Unfortunately for PC gamers, Tripwire clarifies on Twitter that while there will be a next-gen update for the PC, it won't be coming until early 2021. They also briefly explain how the update will work for current physical copyholders by saying that all you have to do is "pop it in your PS5 and download the new PS5 version for free!"

Maneater was a notoriously buggy game when it launched, with players citing save file corruption, frequent crashes, and problems with unlocking achievements and trophies. Hopefully by the time it's updated for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, it will be performing at the next-gen level as promised.

According to the announcement, Maneater's next-gen update will include 4K graphics, 60FPS performance, ray tracing, DualSense controller support for the PS5 version, "and more."

This news may be coming as more developers announce next-gen ports and updates for their games, but only time will tell.
