In an effort to prepare retail shoppers for the impending release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on April 28, Target retail stores will be transformed into one big marketing campaign for the Nintendo title.

As if nobody on the marketing team considered the fact that shopping carts are already often used as racing vehicles, Target has announced that over 650 stores across the United States will feature shopping carts that have been turned into... Mario Karts, but they're calling them "Super Target Karts." They will be styled after Mario, Luigi, and Peach.

But that's not the only way Target has decided to turn its stores into Mario-themed race tracks. At store entrances, shoppers will find black-and-white checkered start/finish lines, flashing lights, and the Super Mario Bros. theme song. It really feels like they're trying to encourage something, right?

Outside of the store, Target's large, red bollards will also be decorated to look like Mario and Luigi's heads. Unfortunately, this precaution probably won't prevent too many karts from flying out Target doors and into a parked vehicle.

This promotion will only be continuing for the next few weeks, so if you've always dreamt of riding in a shopping cart themed after a Mario Kart game, make your way to the nearest Target. If one of your greatest fears is being run down by someone haphazardly steering a shopping cart, maybe some time away from Target might be in order.
