Nintendo released a trailer Mario Kart 8 Deluxe today that delves into what's new in this Nintendo Switch port.

In addition to all of the content already available in the Mario Kart 8 and its DLC, this deluxe edition of the popular Wii U game includes new characters. These new characters are the Inkling Boy and Girl from Splatoon, King Boo, Dry Bones, and Bowser Jr.. Battle mode has also been revamped in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, becoming closer to the version found in older Mario Kart games within its eight courses.

Players can also steal items and turn invisible with the new Boo item, and jump over opponents and obstacles with the Feather, which hasn't been seen since Super Mario Kart on the SNES. Double items have also made their return.

There are also now Smart Steering and Auto Accelerating options, which can make driving a lot easier for younger players. One shouldn't always expect to win when using these settings though, as the game will play it safe when driving, and one's character won't have the ability to use items on their own.

The Nintendo Switch's portability also means that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe can be played anywhere whether it's docked or in Handheld/Tabletop mode. For those curious on how this new version plays, DualShockers recently previewed the game, which you can read here.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will be available on Nintendo Switch April 28, while the original version of Mario Kart 8 and all of its DLC can currently be purchased on Wii U.
