It's been a while since we witnessed a game arriving in the Mario Kart franchise. The last one was released back in 2019, Mario Kart Tour, which again was a mobile title. If you are one of those avid fans waiting for a new title, there is some exciting news for you.

Mario Kart 9 in Active Development, Mobile Game Also In Works: Report

In a report on GamesIndustry.biz, Kantan Games analyst Dr. Serkan Toto reveals some interesting details about the next Mario Kart game. Speaking about the sequel, he adds that "I am aware Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling very well on the Nintendo Switch, but Mario Kart 9 is in active development (and comes with a new twist) and Nintendo could tease it this year."

While the sequel isn't that surprising, considering the fact that many would have expected it, what fans must be curious about is the new twist in the game. What this twist is remains to be seen.

Apart from that, Toto also gives some more information about Nintendo's plans on mobile devices. He states that this might be the year we might see exciting new stuff on mobile devices. He adds "On mobile, Nintendo has been very silent since Mario Kart Tour's launch in 2019, but I think 2022 is when we will see an established IP arriving on smart devices again."
