What is happening! Nintendo just stealth dropped a HUGE Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct on us. Alongside the heavily rumoured and much anticipated Super Mario 3D All Stars Collection (which launches in just a couple of weeks!?) we got a new Game and Watch system, Super Mario 35, a Mario themed Battle Royale and Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit.

Home Circuit is the first game from Velan Studios and is part game, part toy. Described as "Mixed-Reality", Mario Kart Live allows you to use your Nintendo Switch to control a real-life Mario Kart that's been fitted with a camera. Within the game, players will design and construct their own courses and then use the physical kart to race around these courses against the Koopalings.

Velan Studios describe the game below:

"Putting your world at the center of play was the start. Creating your own courses was the next step (a first for the series!). The reveal trailer shows how you can take a simple design and evolve the circuits in very elaborate ways. It’s all about creative play, underpinned with tight, easily accessible controls for that classic, beloved Mario Kart feel. The development team has packed the game with items, obstacles, course themes and much more. Velan Studios is honored to be part of the 35th anniversary of Mario in such a groundbreaking new way."

The video that was part of the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct showed off how the game would work, with a child using his Nintendo Switch to see what was on the camera and racing around his living room.

What a wild ride. This is certainly something new for Nintendo and an incredible glimpse at what the future of mixed-reality gaming could look like. If only it was about when I was younger.
