Can You Play Mario Party Superstars With a Pro Controller

October 29, 2021

Mario Party Superstars arrives worldwide today and, based on critical consensus at least, it looks like it could be one of the best entries into the series.

Superstars takes some of the most beloved boards from the series’ defining era on the N64 and minigames from throughout the series’ history, before amalgamating them into one giant, chaotic party.

As with most Mario Party games, there are bound to be arguments aplenty as friends and family steal stars, coins and board spaces away from you, especially now that the title includes an online multiplayer component.

However, many players are wondering if the minigames rely on motion controls or whether players will be able to use their Pro Controller on Mario Party Superstars. Let’s take a look!

Can You Use A Pro Controller on Mario Party Superstars?

Thankfully, the answer is a simple yes.

As all of the title’s minigames are coming to Mario Party Superstars from the N64 era, when motion controls weren’t a thing, every command is mapped to a button.

This means that players can use any control they desire, including Joy-Cons, a Pro Controller or any other third-party piece of hardware.

The most recent entry to the series, Super Mario Party, would also allow players to use a Pro Controller, however, as many of the games relied on motion controls, it wasn’t always the most optimal controller choice.

Whichever controller you use, be prepared for a ton of fun as Mario Party Superstars hits the Nintendo Switch both physically and digitally today, October 29.
