Since launching back in August, Ubisoft's strategy crossover Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle has enjoyed critical acclaim by bringing together the unlikely combination of Mario and the Rabbids, and tomorrow players will get to enjoy a whole new side of the game with a competitive edge.

Ubisoft has announced that Versus Mode will be arriving for Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle tomorrow, December 8th, as a free update for all owners of the game on Nintendo Switch. As the name implies, Versus Mode will bring players together to take each other on in heated matches and see who can come out on top.

Versus Mode will be playable locally between two players (by either using two controllers or one pair of Joy-Con controllers), but will contain some surprises that are different than the main game. Notably, Versus mode will only provide three actions for players per turn.

Additionally, playable characters in the mode will be "beefy, upgraded versions of all eight characters" (presumably to ensure character balance), while 16 different unlockable variants will be available on top of standard, "all-around starter loadouts" for each character. Players will also be able to select either all-Rabbid or all-Mushroom Kingdom-based teams, unlike in the main game where players had to have Mario and at least one Rabbid on their team at all times.

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is available now on Nintendo Switch, and is conveniently on sale at the moment at GameStop if you haven't picked it up. For a closer look at the upcoming Versus Mode, you can check out a few new screenshots below:
