For a company that is seemingly so behind on getting their online infrastructure right, Nintendo has been hitting it out of the park when it comes to supporting its games with additional content. Just yesterday Nintendo announced that it will continue to provide free updates for Splatoon 2 through 2018, adding six additional months of free content than initially promised. Continuing this trend, Nintendo has announced today that it will add both Koopa Troopa and Blooper to the upcoming title Mario Tennis Aces this summer.

While this news would certainly be more earth-shattering if Nintendo announced that both characters were coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate., it's still significant in its own right. For starters, Mario Tennis Aces is essentially balanced like a fighting game-- each character has their own strong suits and their own weak points. For example, characters like Yoshi have tons of speed, however, can be overpowered by slower characters like Bowser. Additionally, even characters with similar attributes feel different to control, as heavy characters like Bowser and Chain Chomp warrant incredibly different play styles.

It'll be interesting to see how Nintendo classify both Koopa Troopa and Blooper within the confines of the game. For those ready to get onto the court the wait is almost over as Mario Tennis Aces will be released for the Nintendo Switch on June 22nd. As previously stated, Koopa Troopa and Blooper will come to the game in July and August respectively.
