Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order was one of the most surprising announcements to come out of The Game Awards. In addition to being a new entry in a popular series that was dormant for over a decade, the game is also being developed by Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo and published by Nintendo exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. During a recent interview with IGN, Reggie Fils-Aime revealed how Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order came about and how the game is "a great opportunity" for the company.

Apparently, the stars basically aligned for this partnership to happen. Marvel was interested in continuing the Marvel Ultimate Alliance franchise and decided to partner with Nintendo in order to make that happen. After working with Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja on titles like Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors, Nintendo knew they'd be a good partner the game.

Fils-Aime then re-iterated how Nintendo is "constantly looking" for opportunities with titles such as Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order before complimenting the developers at Team Ninja and showing excitement for the project:

"[Nintendo's previous Koei Tecmo collaborations] did. What happens in the world of development is you have companies who have positive experiences in working together, coupled with franchises being available, and the franchise owner wanting to do something with a particular franchise, and in this case, those three elements came together in order to create the opportunity for that game, and we love that.

And we're constantly looking for those types of opportunities. It's the Team Ninja portion of Koei Tecmo that's working on this. They've got a lot of skills, and it really helped paint a picture of what that game is going to be. We're tremendously excited about it...What we want to do is we want to make this game a great experience, and certainly with all of the excitement around the overall Marvel universe, we think it's going to be a great opportunity."

While I do have some worries after re-watching Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order's reveal trailer, namely when it comes to graphics and gameplay simplicity, I can't help but be tremendously excited for the game. I adored the first two Marvel Ultimate Alliance games as a kid, and they were very formative titles as I developed my love for both comics and gaming. Unfortunately, Reggie Fils-Aime said that potential Nintendo Switch ports for the fist two games have "not been an area of focus for us."

For now, we'll only have the game's reveal trailer to go on, so you can check that out below. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch sometime in 2019 and can already be pre-ordered on Amazon. If this game's announcement has gotten you in the mood to watch Avengers: Infinity War before the release of Avengers: Endgame next April, that movie is available on Amazon as well.
