Marvelous President Haruki Nakayama to Step Down in June Due to Poor Health
Marvelous President Haruki Nakayama will resign in June, citing poor health. Current Vice Chairman Shuichi Matoda will take over the position.
Haruki Nakayama, the current chairman, president, and CEO of Marvelous Inc will be stepping down from all his positions in June due to declining health. Current Vice Chairman (and Executive officer of Amusement business of Marvelous, Inc.) Shuichi Matoda will take over as Chairman following the company’s 22nd meeting of shareholders on June 18th.
Marvelous made the announcement this past Monday, explaining that Nakayama is retiring as he has been in poor health for a few years and is taking time for rest and recuperation. The change of president will be formally voted upon at the 22nd annual meeting of shareholders on June 18, as well as at the board of directors meeting that follows.
In recent news Marvelous news, Kenichiro Takaki revealed in a Famitsu interview that he would be resigning from the company. Takaki is known as the director of Honey Parade games, the studio internal to Marvelous in charge of the Senran Kagura series. Takaki cited the stricter regulations on sexual content in games as the main factor behind his resign. Despite resigning, Takaki will finish all his ongoing projects, including PS4 exclusive Senran Kagura 7EVEN: Shoujo tachi no Koufuku. He also announced a new game and anime multimedia project with Cygames.
Marvelous has reached an agreement with Chinese company Tencent in order to create a Story of Seasons mobile game. The statement details that Marvelous is only providing authorization to Tencent to use the Story of Seasons license. The Story of Seasons mobile game’s development and publishing will all be handled by Tencent. No addition game details or a release date has been revealed at this time.
