There has been a lot of talk about that there Avengers video game over the past month or so. While much of the conversation in the game's pre-release phase was pretty mixed, it seems as though the general discussion about the title led to many people wanting to check out it. So much so, in fact, that the Marvel's Avengers beta was able to break some records.Announced by publisher Square Enix today, it was divulged that the Marvel's Avengers beta that took place across multiple sessions throughout August was the most-downloaded beta in the history of PlayStation as a whole. While the same might be able to be said for those on Xbox or PC, PS4 users were clearly interested enough to either pre-order the action-adventure game to give it a shot, or they hopped in during the beta's free weekend. Either way, the game has already been played in its trial phase a ton.

Not to underscore the achievement by Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics in any way, but this news also isn't that shocking. Given that the PS4 install base is currently around 110 million in total, it's just natural that more people would be able to give this beta a whirl than they would have on the platform for another game in years prior. Plus, Marvel's Avengers has a pretty wide appeal and naturally had more eyes drawn to it given the fact that this is, well, The Avengers, after all.

As for the full release of Marvel's Avengers, it's set to hit physical and digital store shelves later this week on September 4 across PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. PS5 and Xbox Series X iterations will also be coming down the pipeline, too.
