Marvel's Avengers' Campaign Will Only Be Playable via Single-Player, Not Multiplayer

The story that Marvel's Avengers is telling will only be able to be experienced by yourself.

We’ve known for a bit now that Marvel’s Avengers would offer a co-op feature that would allow you to play through the game with your friends, but Square Enix hasn’t exactly explained how this feature would work. Now, a little over a week after Avengers was first properly revealed at E3 2019, further information has now come to light.

According to IGN, the campaign portion of Marvel’s Avengers will not feature a multiplayer component whatsoever. This information comes directly from the developers at Crystal Dynamics. So, that means if you were looking to experience the story that Square Enix is looking to tell in Avengers, you’ll have to experience it on your own. To many reading this, I assume that this will be taken as a positive.

As for what that means for multiplayer though, it clearly seems to indicate that Marvel’s Avengers will offer secondary modes in which you will be able to play with your pals. Just exactly what these modes will be or how they will operate hasn’t been divulged just yet, but Square will likely say a whole lot more as we near next year’s 2020 release.

If I had to personally guess how co-op will work in Marvel’s Avengers, I imagine it will be like Strikes in Destiny or something along those lines. Brief missions in which you’re able to jump in with some friends, beat down some evildoers, and then jump out. I could be totally wrong so don’t take that as fact by any means, but that’s kind of what I’m expecting in my head.

Marvel’s Avengers is set to release next year on May 15, 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. If you’d like to hear more of my personal thoughts on what I saw of Avengers during E3, you can check out my preview here.
