After much anticipation, Marvel's Avengers is finally releasing this week for consoles and PC. Bringing together Earth's Mightiest Heroes as they reassemble to face new threats, the upcoming game from Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics is offering a new take on the beloved comic characters that we know and love. However, if you happen to be a fan of the characters as they've been seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you might be wondering whether the new game follows in the tradition of the MCU with a post-credits scene to show what's to come.

It should go without saying, but if you're averse to getting spoiled in any way, this is your SPOILER WARNING that we'll dig into some of the events of the campaign of Marvel's Avengers. If you want to go into the experience completely spoiler-free, turn back now.

Does Marvel's Avengers have a post-credits scene?

The simple answer is yes, there is a post-credits scene once you complete the campaign of Marvel's Avengers, though more specifically it's a mid-credits scene. Like the MCU films, the scene is pretty short but offers some fan service for Marvel fans, along with giving a glimpse of what we might expect from the upcoming events and new characters coming to the game, or even a potential sequel.

Following the end of Marvel's Avengers, the scene shows Monica Rappaccini having survived being injected by George Tarleton/MODOK with a lethal amount of his regenerative formula, indicating that he had actually killed a clone of her. The real Rappaccini, surrounded by duplicate clones of herself and shadowy figures, is now the Scientist Supreme of AIM, and gestures towards ominous plans to continue AIM's mission of experimenting with Inhumans. After that, the scene cuts away to the AIM Sentry (likely a Kree Sentry) that Kamala took down at the story's conclusion, as a panel opens up from its neck and releases an escape pod into space.

Presumably, it seems like the post-credits scene is setting up future confrontations between the Avengers and unknown foes down the line, and obviously the Kree seem like the most likely candidates. Whether or not this means that Tarleton survived his encounter with Kamala Khan and will return with a vengeance remains to be seen, but for now, the post-credits scene will give fans the chance to speculate as to whether we'll get a new intergalactic threat to face in the game sometime down the line.

At the very least, this could also signal the arrival of new Heroes entering the fray from outer space, such as Captain Marvel. She seems the most likely to arrive given that the game includes several references to Captain Marvel, but I'm crossing my fingers that maybe the Guardians of the Galaxy will show up sometime as well.

Marvel's Avengers is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC. The game will also be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X at a later date.
