So, Who Is Phastos?

Phastos Eternals

Phastos in comics

In Marvel Universe, Phastos, is an intelligent inventor who belongs to an immortal race, Eternals, created thousands of years ago by the alien Celestials.

He serves as a cosmic-powered inventor who helps humanity progress technologically. In the comics series, Phastos is seen carrying a hammer that can manipulate machinery in a way that cannot be achieved by other Eternals.

As head of technology for the Eternals on Earth, he created several weapons and invented new things for them. The sword of the Eternal Kingo Sunen was also forged by Phastos.

Phastos Personality

Phastos is depicted as a more reticent being than others, possessing a melancholic spirit with an ambivalence towards fighting.

For him, life seemed to be meaningless, so Phastos kept on searching for someone or something that could bring some meaning to his life.

It is suggested that Phastos' search was the reason why he continued to stay on Earth while most of his fellow Eternals left for outer space. And it is also suspected to be a reason why Phastos refused to participate in war (in comics) with the Deviants.

Who Is Playing The Role Of Phastos In Eternals?

In the Eternals trailer, we can Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, wearing a full body armor and conjuring up something that looks like a golden staff.

Phastos - MCU’s first openly gay superhero

Interestingly, Phastos is the MCU’s first openly gay superhero. According to reports, in Eternals movie, he will be married to an architect portrayed by the actor Haaz Sleiman.

It's not only a big step for Marvel Studios but also a giant leap for LGBTQ+ representation in the movie industry.

This time, Marvel is not only going to bring its first gay superhero on screen but also its first deaf superhero Makkari, played by Lauren Ridloff, an actress who was born deaf.
