The upcoming turn-based tactical RPG, Marvel's Midnight Suns, recently released a deep-dive on one of the brand’s most iconic characters, Captain America.

As seen below, the trailer goes over Captain America’s defensive playstyle, the strategies you should employ when playing him, and his various unique moves. They also state how this showcase, run by YouTuber ChristopherOdd, is the first of a series of videos that will go over many of Midnight Suns’ playable characters.

The video explains how Captain America’s main gameplay strategy revolves around generating Block, a resource that lowers incoming damage the more of it you have. Many of Cap’s moves are based around this resource, such as taunting enemies so he absorbs the bulk of the damage for a turn, or expending your built-up Block to power up devastating shield attacks. We also see a glimpse of a conversation playing out between Cap and your customizable avatar, The Hunter. Raising your friendship level with your Superhero partners results in permanent buffs that power them up in battle.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns was first announced in August 2021, with an epic cinematic trailer, that showed off iconic heroes such as Wolverine, Iron Man, and Dr. Strange. Though some were disappointed upon the realization that the game was a tactical strategy RPG, fans of the genre and the Marvel brand revelled with excitement.

The game is being developed by Firaxis Games, the team most commonly known for the massively popular Civilization series, as well as their XCOM titles. It’s a studio that’s shown its competence in creating satisfying and addicting strategy gameplay, so it’s no surprise why they were handed the reigns of such a strong IP with so many iconic characters. Although, this game does veer quite significantly from their previous titles, despite being within the same general genre.

The game’s combat is not grid-based, but instead allows for free movement toward any direction, and promotes using the environment around you for more effective results, think kicking an enemy off a cliff. Abilities are chosen card-game style, with the player getting a random selection for each hero, and drawing new cards as the fight goes along. Non-combat portions will have you walking around a hub in third-person, exploring, and engaging in conversation with the other heroes.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns releases on October 7th, 2022, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
