Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Features a Tribute to Chadwick Boseman
The in-game credits in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales feature a heartfelt dedication and tribute to the late actor Chadwick Boseman.
Aside from being one of the biggest game releases of the holiday season, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is also notable as a title that puts representation front and center with Miles (who is of African-American and Puerto Rican descent) as its lead character. However, Insomniac Games’ latest release also made sure to honor another figure that has left an indelible mark in superhero culture, the late Chadwick Boseman.
In the end credits of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Insomniac Games paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman to honor the late actor following his death earlier this year. The full tribute to Boseman reads: “In Loving Memory of a Noble King, Chadwick Boseman. His honor, strength, and compassion will reverberate for generations to come. Wakanda Forever.”

Known for his roles in films such as 42, 21 Bridges, and as T’Challa in Marvel’s Black Panther, Boseman passed away at the age of 43 on August 28, 2020 due to complications from colon cancer. Boseman will be seen in the upcoming Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom from Netflix in December, which will mark Boseman’s final on-screen appearance in a film.
Given his iconic role in the Marvel films as Black Panther, Boseman’s death had a profound impact across both comics and pop culture as a whole. Black Panther not only became the first ever superhero film to earn a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards, but also was a massive critical and commercial success that marked a new turning point for representation and diversity in the culture of superhero films.
With Miles’ popularity in the Marvel universe and his own stature as a superhero person-of-color, it’s fitting that Insomniac Games would offer a small (but touching) tribute to Boseman to honor his legacy. Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics also paid tribute to the actor in September during a War Table stream for Marvel’s Avengers, while also indicating that Black Panther will be added as a post-launch character in the future.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is available now on PS5 and PS4.
