Everyone is awaiting the Nintendo Direct February 2021 later today and the same can be said for Masahiro Sakurai. The director of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate regularly shares some handmade screenshots of the game on Twitter, using developer-only camera angles. However, Masahiro Sakurai also regularly shares some of his thoughts via tweets.

Now, Masahiro Sakurai shared some interesting comments regarding the Nintendo Direct coming this February 17. We translated them below.

Masahiro Sakurai: "The only thing that was specified beforehand is that it will include new information on Smash Bros. I'm looking forward to the other announcements!! With the pandemic and all, I wonder if many games were held back until now, and will all be announced at once. (Note that I don't know what will be announced)."

You should definitely keep in mind this is not a teaser, but only a prediction. Masahiro Sakurai explicitly stated at the end of his tweet he doesn't know himself what will be announced on the Nintendo Direct February 2021. Besides the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate related announcements, needless to say.

It's also important to note that neither Nintendo or Sakurai in his tweet confirmed that a new DLC character will be announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

They only stated there will be "announcements" for the game. It's highly likely a new DLC fighter character will be revealed though. Be sure to check our character predictions.

The last Nintendo Direct was on September 5, 2019. Ever since, Nintendo only published Nintendo Direct Mini videos. Most probably because of the pandemic. Masahiro Sakurai already explained in the past how Covid-19 affects his own work on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2.

As a side note, Masahiro Sakurai also has his own column in Famitsu magazine. Every two weeks, he shares his impressions on various subjects related to the game industry.

Masahiro Sakurai most notably shared his thoughts on CD Projekt Red and Cyberpunk 2077 a few weeks ago.

In the past, Masahiro Sakurai also shared some high praise for Death Stranding, the first game by Kojima Productions. He also called 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, the latest game by Vanillaware, a masterpiece anyone should play.

The Nintendo Direct will include new information on Smash Bros. and games coming to Switch in the first half of 2021. Stay tuned on DualShockers as we will cover all announcements as soon as we can.
