Super Smash Bros. fan site Source Gaming translated the latest Famitsu interview where Super Smash Bros. producer Masahiro Sakurai makes a few comments about DLC. He told Famitsu that adding content like online features, updates and so on can be overwhelming, but in the end it’s all about making the players happy.
He adds by saying the “DLC Scam” has become an epidemic and charging money to complete a project that was unfinished can really aggravate players and he sympathizes with that. He believes a game should be 100% complete, not sold in pieces. That is why they begin DLC development after the game is released.
Sakurai also mentions that adding DLC shortly following a game’s release is the easiest way to make money and keeps players from “moving on” to the next title.
