Mass Effect 2 Gets Some Free Armor

on February 9, 2010 10:10 AM

If you’re still into Mass Effect 2 and are just itching to give your Shepherd another look, you’re in for a treat tomorrow.  Bioware announced today that they’ll be releasing a new free downloadable armor set and weapon through the Cerberus Network.  This will be the first piece of DLC they have released for the game since launch day. Let’s hope that the future holds more for the Cerberus Network than just a piece of armor here and a weapon there, though. Beefier new missions or clusters to explore would be preferable, and I would accept new outfits for the party members, as well. *hint, hint*

For those curious, here is some information about the new pieces of gear:

Cerberus Assault Armor: This armor is designed for shock troops to be able to turn the tide of battle against forces that would decimate normal soldiers (wait, doesn’t Shepherd do this already?).

  • Increases heavy weapon ammo capacity by 10%.
  • Increases shields by 10%.
  • Increases health by 10%.

M-22a Eviscerator Shotgun: A longer-range shotgun with armor-piercing loads.  The design of this weapon seems to violate several intergalactic treaties, so it isn’t distributed to your typical soldier.

Let’s just hope the helmet is removed during cut scenes in the game that would typically remove a helmet.  I don’t want to lose immersion because of a crazy set of armor!  Needless to say, this will be available starting today for both the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game.  For more information on the new gear, check out the official site.
