Housemarque's newest twin-stick arcade shooter, Matterfall, launched exclusively for PlayStation 4 today. A new launch trailer shows off the game's fast-paced gameplay, booming soundtrack, and a heap of explosions.

Matterfall is a 2D side-scrolling shooter where you combat enemies infected by Red Matter, and manipulate the world using Blue Matter as you attempt to clear a stage as flawlessly as you possibly can. With the fast-paced twin-stick mechanic Housemarque is known for, you will shoot your way through each stage with a variety of weapons and abilities.

Like any arcade shooter, as you progress through each stage, you will earn a score depending on how well you perform; perfecting your performance will grant you a higher score that will allow you to climb up the leaderboard. Moving up the leaderboard against your friends will grant you the best prize a game can give you: bragging rights.

Housemarque is widely considered one of the best when it comes to developing twin-stick shooters. Giventhat Eugene Jarvis — designer of some of the most well-known arcade classics such as Defender, Robotron: 2084, and Smash TV — was a creative consultant on their last game, Nex Machina, it may not be surprising that they have received this kind of reputation.

You can purchase Matterfall right now on PlayStation 4 for $19.99 USD. You can check out the new launch trailer below:
