While Obsidian’s “Project Eternity” raised more than four millions with their Kickstarter campaign plus Paypal pledges on the side, someone else has already shattered that record even if not on Kickstarter itself.
Piranha games announced that MechWarrior Online‘s Founder’s program, that is nothing else than a crowdfunding program with another name and just three levels of pledges, and that concluded at the end of last week, raised a staggering $5,205,600 for the game, counting 67,310 subscribers.
Admittedly, the comparison with Project Eternity isn’t that fair, as MechWarrior Online‘s Founders program ran for multiple months (since July), but money is money, and this is a lot of it.
What’s most surprising is that the most popular level of subscription was Legendary, costing a whopping $120, narrowly followed by the Elite level, that costed “only” $60. That proves that there are a whole lot of people willing to invest pretty heavily in the game.
Considering how long we have waited for a new MechWarrior game, who is surprised?
