The MechWarrior and BattleTech franchise by FASA has been a large part of the youth of many tabletop and RPG gamer of my generation. Many PC gamers also enjoyed the forays of the IP into video games, spearheaded by the series that dropped into obscurity after the fantastic MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries released in 2002.

While MechWarrior Online kept us busy over the past few years, not everyone is into online games. That being said, the MechWarrior series is coming back soon enough with MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries by the same developer that created the latest online game, Piranha Games.

Today we learn that the game will release in December 2018, with PC as the only confirmed platform. On top of that, during a livestream on Twitch from Mech_Con 2017, the studio aired a brand new trailer and announced a few spiffy features.

First of all, the game will have full mod support on Steam Workshop, and Piranha Games is going to start working with interested moding teams next year.

Secondly, four-player co-op will be supported, letting you lead your lance on the game's battlefield. If you're wondering how excited I am right now. My smile pretty much goes from ear to ear.

You can enjoy the trailer below. If you want to see more, you can also enjoy the first trailer from a year ago.

Incidentally, if you want something related to enjoy until December 2018, another treat was announced today. You can log into MechWarrior Online on December 27 and play a single match to receive all the goodies listed in the image below. That includes two hero mechs, which is really sweet.
