Media Molecule Can “Squeeze as Much as They Can” Out of PS4 with Dreams; Working “Quite Hard to Make it All Fit”

Today Media Molecule hosted a lovely livestream giving us a glimpse on the upcoming crativity-driven PS4 exclusive Dreams, and Technical Director Alex Evans mentioned that the PS4 has “absolutely” the power to support the vision for the game.

“I think we have to work quite hard to make it all fit, but that’s the fun thing. I think ever since Media Molecule was founded, we got a lot of value added by being so focused just on PlayStation.”

“For example, LittleBigPlanet was designed on PS3, and then Tearaway was designed on Vita, Tearaway Unfolded was designed on PS4, and the same with Dreams. I think it’s like, we know what our target platform is, so we can basically try and squeeze as much as we can out of that one platform, and that’s been very helpful for us.”

“As you’ve seen today at the beginning of the scream, that’s not a very big team, so we have to pick our battles, and being able to do it on just one platform makes it a little bit easier. It’s still very hard, and the engine guys next to me are all giggling and have “oh dear” expressions on their faces, but we’ll do it.”

Evans also mentioned that at Paris Games Week the studio aims to answers many of the questions raised since E3, and they want to do so in a way that’ll be “hopefully quite surprising.”
