EVO 2019 was largely pretty great this past weekend. In the midst of all the great competition though, one incredibly strange moment occurred during the Tekken 7 top 8 which saw Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid series appear in a short video on-screen in the arena simply to say, "That was some good ass Tekken."

Initially, many thought that this may have been a tease of sorts that Snake himself might be coming to Tekken 7 in the future as a DLC fighter. Later though, EVO clarified that this entire situation was done by themselves and they did not consult Bandai Namco before doing so. Now, one famous voice associated with Metal Gear Solid has spoken out as well, and he doesn't sound too pleased.

Over on Twitter just recently, David Hayter, the voice of Solid Snake in almost all Metal Gear Solid games, clarified that this stunt by EVO wasn't cleared by Konami, either. Furthermore, Hayter seemed to be angry that his voice was used in this moment at EVO and also made clear that he wasn't consulted in any way before this transpired. "Please do not use my voice to promote other games. Ever," Hayter said.

The more we learn about this whole situation, the more I'm baffled that anyone at EVO thought this would actually be a good idea. While I'm sure it was meant to be a harmless moment that was just supposed to elicit some happiness from fans, I have no idea how those at EVO couldn't see the downside to this happening. Especially without consulting those that they should have talked to beforehand! I doubt anything else comes of this moving forward, but good grief, what a headache.

Hopefully, moving forward, fans don't lay the blame for this situation at the feet of Bandai Namco and complain when Snake doesn't end up joining Tekken 7's roster. At the very least, at least the character is once again playable in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
