Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain‘s online servers are being terminated on Xbox 360 and PS3, Konami has announced. The online service will conclude in stages with the first step already underway.

A short notice on the Konami website states: “Thank you for playing Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. We regret to inform our users that online services for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 will be terminated on 2022-05-31 6:00 (UTC).”

Yesterday, the online purchase system for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was sadly terminated and from November 30th, Metal Gear Online‘s DLC related items will also no longer be available to purchase.

This comes a year after the PS3 version unlocked The Game’s Secret Ending.

From March 1st, the game will no longer be distributed on the platforms digital storefronts with the final retirement of service being on the 31st of May.

Konami notes that this is only a termination of the online service, and the game’s single-player remain playable offline. Additionally, Konami will not be offering refunds for items purchased within the game.

Whilst this may disappoint some fans it is worth noting that Metal Gear Online will still be playable on PC, PS4 and Xbox One for now. Since the launch of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, legendary game designer Hideo Kojima has released Death Stranding with The Director’s Cut coming out later this month on PS5
