Metal Wolf Chaos XD Is Finally Coming West This August; New Trailer [Updated]

Devolver Digital is bringing west this August the remaster of FromSoftware's classic mecha game Metal Wolf Chaos.

Devolver Digital teased the release date for Metal Wolf Chaos XD would be announced this week. Ahead of the announcement, however, on July 3, the game’s Microsoft Store page was updated, revealing the release date. Metal Wolf Chaos XD will be launching on August 6, 2019, on Xbox One, PS4, and PC via Steam.

Metal Wolf Chaos originally released in 204, exclusively on Xbox 360, and only in Japan. It’s a mecha action game developed by FromSoftware, used to the genre with its Armored Core series. The game puts players in the shoes of a fictional mecha piloting President of the United States as he fights his evil Vice-President staging a coup d’état.

The Xbox 360 + Japan exclusivity of Metal Wolf Chaos might sound weird now, but the console at the time was house to many niche Japanese exclusive genres: mecha games such as Metal Wolf Chaos, Danmaku games with all of Cave’s games releasing on 360, and Visual Novels most notably from 5pb. Games.

Metal Wolf Chaos XD is a brand new remaster which was first teased by Devolver Digital back in June 2018, before being officially announced a few days later at E3 2018, bringing the game west for the first time.

More mecha games are always great in my book especially with one as original as Metal Wolf Chaos. Blatant and over the top political satire is something I’ve always particularly liked in games, from Command & Conquer Red Alert to Freedom Fighters, so saying I’m excited is an understatement.

Update: FromSoftware officially announced the release date with a new trailer.
