Metamorphosis is a first-person title that allows you to finally become a bug. You know you've always wanted to be a bug. Players will be able to explore a gigantic world from the perspective of a tiny bug when Metamorphosis launches later this year.

The story of Metamorphosis is inspired by Frank Kafka's short story, The Metamorphosis and finds the player controlled Gregor Samsa as he transforms himself into a bug as a ruse to save himself and his friend Joseph from prison. It doesn't go according to plan however when Gregor finds out that his friend fails to recognize his new-found bug body.

In order to save his friend, Gregor now has to traverse through the tiniest of nooks and crannies which are in fact huge locations for his new body. Players can leap, climb, and chart paths as they make use of the protagonist's bug abilities.

The trailer above shows off developer Ovid Works' upcoming Metamorphosis which starts off with a cinematic tracking shot towards a book before closing in and transporting us to the gameplay. The gameplay shows off Gregor going through a cluttered drawer as two characters converse above.

Zaq Chojecki, Game Director at Ovid Works discussed the inspiration of Frank Kafka by saying: "...we wanted to pay tribute to his strange, haunting, darkly comic worlds by envisioning them as a video game" however they also state that they don't "want to make this a straight adaptation, as video games are a completely different medium".

Jacek Debowski, CEO at Ovid Works details the style of the game as: "Metamorphosis combines the first-person traversal puzzles of something like Portal with the philosophical existential musings of early 20th century literature".

Apparently, the title introduces a range of colorful characters from human beings to insects as players wander a hand-painted world. You can find some screenshots below in the gallery.

Metamorphosis is slated for a Fall 2019 launch on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
