Nightkeep is a 2D metroidvania game with RPG elements. Developer RPG2 Heaven has put the game on Steam Greenlight for players to vote on.

You play as a huntress named Arietta. The game opens with you arriving in a faraway town called Nightkeep.

Players can take on the main quest of the game or do the game's multiple side quests.

The developer stated that they had originally planned for Nightkeep to be a level based platformer, but the project grew into something that was much bigger than that.

"The game mechanics are straight from the 90s. With the change of concept, many things were changed and many of them were added, such as a back dash, a slide or a double jump. My main intention is to make a relatively simple game fueled by a compelling story and quests."

Arietta uses a sword as her primary weapon throughout the entirety of the game. The twist is that players can insert different gems into the sword's handle.

These gems will allow your weapon to take on different forms for different scenarios. Not only does your sword take gems but your clothing and necklace do too.

Players can also expect to find all the weapons that would be available to a huntress. "Throwing knives, axes or the latest invention of the Goblin workshop."

Nightkeep will feature a simple leveling system similar to Symphony of the Night where leveling restores your health and improves your abilities. Players will have to find power ups to increase their max health among other things that weren't listed.

"Nightkeep has its items divided into 4 sections - consumables, general, relics and gemstones. The game holds over 60 different items you can come across during your playthrough of the campaign."

The developer encourages players to explore the world of Nightkeep and fans of the 90's and metroidvania titles in general should not miss out on the chance to support this game.
