Microsoft shocked many during its E3 2015 press conference with the surprise reveal of Xbox 360 backwards compatibility coming to Xbox One, and in collaboration with the upcoming re-release of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, the company is sweetening the deal by offering one of its most iconic series completely available to Xbox One owners through backwards compatibility.

On the eve of this week’s Gamescom 2015, Microsoft announced that purchases of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition between its launch (August 25th, 2015) through December 31st, 2015 will be eligible to receive backwards compatible copies of the entire Gears of War saga on Xbox One: this includes the original Xbox 360 versions of Gears of WarGears of War 2Gears of War 3, and Gears of War: Judgment.

Alongside the incentive for purchases of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition later this summer, Microsoft confirmed that all of the Gears of War titles will be available through Xbox One’s backwards compatibility when it launches publicly this fall, meaning those that have owned the titles previously on Xbox 360 will be able to play them on Xbox One alongside new features such as Game DVR and Snap.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition releases for Xbox One on August 25th, 2015, followed by a PC release afterward.
