Microsoft Trademarks “Kalimba;” Is a New Game Coming? (UPDATED)

on November 3, 2014 12:37 PM

Microsoft recently filed for the registration of the trademark “Kalimba” as you can see in the screencap below.

While we don’t know the precise nature of the trademark, it’s registered under the standard class 9 (games) and 41 (online games) used for new game titles.

The closest Microsoft has gone to the word “Kalimba” before was the 2008 song by electronica artist Mr. Scruff included in the Windows 7 music folder a few years ago, but a connection is very unlikely.

We’ll have to wait and see on this one, but something is probably coming.

Update: apparently “Kalimba” was rated in Australia a few days ago as well, indicating Press Play as the developer. It could be the final name for Press Play’s previously announced Project Totem
