Middle-earth: Shadow of War Reveals Shelob in Spectacular New Trailer

Shelob looks a lot more human than usual in a new trailer of Middle-earth: Shadow of War, but no less unsettling.

July 21, 2017

Today Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Monolith Productions hosted a panel at San Diego Comic-Con about their upcoming game Middle-earth: Shadow of War, and they just released a brand new trailer.

Incidentally, during the panel we also learned that The Walking Dead star Pollyanna McIntosh will play Shelob in the game.

The version of Shelob we get in Middle-earth: Shadow of War is certainly rather different from what Tolkien fans are used to. She appears in humanoid form to grant Talion a vision about his own destiny and the fate of the whole Middle-earth. That said, not everything may be as it seems, with Celebrimbor urging our hero not to trust her, mentioning that she is definitely not their ally.

Of course, we also see Shelob in her much more familiar – and definitely more terrifying – spider form, even if it remains to be seen what role she’ll really play in the story.

You can watch the trailer below (but if you’re affected by arachnophobia, maybe you shouldn’t), and if you want to see more of the game, you can check out the latest story trailer, another introducing the Nemesis Forge system, and our hands-on preview. At E3 2017, it won our staff-voted Game of Show award.

The game will release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 10.
