What Is Axolotl In Minecraft?

Minecraft Axolotl

Axolotl is an aquatic creature (mob) in Minecraft that attacks most other underwater mobs such as Fish, Squid, Drowned, and Guardians.

Axolotls need water to survive but they can survive on dry land for a few minutes. Beyond that, they start to dry out and take continuous damage until rehydrated and can die.

When Axolotls are fighting you or taking damage, they pretend to die and regenerates health. While playing dead, the Axolotls regenerate their health and during that time mobs are unable to target them.

Blue Axolotl In Minecraft

Axolotls come in a variety of colors, all with an equal chance of spawning except for the blue Axolotl. The Blue Axolotl is a super rare variant with 1 in 1200 chance of appearing as a mutation when two Axolotls are bred.

Fun fact: The blue Axolotl was added by developers as an Easter egg with 1/1200 spawn chance because only 1200 Axolotls left in the wild.

Where Do Axolotl Spawn In Minecraft?

Axolotls are amphibious creatures that spawn in underground water. The adult axolotls spawn naturally in groups of 1-4 on any water with blocks above it below y: 63, typically in caves. This includes bubble columns too.

After the world generation, Axolotls spawn individually in total darkness and where there is a block with base_stone_overworld tag (that is, stone, deepslate, andesite, diorite, granite or tuff) less than 5 blocks below the spawning space.

How To Find Axolotl?

Axolotls can be spawned in Creative Mode with a Spawn Egg, Axolotl Bucket, or with the /summon command. On appearing, they can be picked up with buckets, just like Fish.

What Do Axolotls Eat In Minecraft?

Axolotls eat Tropical Fish only. This is inspired from their real life behaviour where they love to eat living fishes over dead ones.

Can You Tame Axolotls In Minecraft?

Axolotls cannot be tamed exactly in Minecraft. However, if you hold a bucket of Tropical Fish around them, it will cause the nearby Axolotls to follow you onto the battle both land and in water. So it's more of a give and take relation.

Also, if you kill a mob that the Axolotl was attacking, you will be rewarded with the health regeneration effect, and you mining fatigue (if you have any) will be removed. So if you help the Axolotl, it helps you.

How To Breed Axolotls In Minecraft?

Axolotls can be bred by feeding them buckets of Tropical Fish.
