Minecraft Breaks XBLA Digital Sales Records, Profits Within an Hour of Debut

The immensely popular indie game, Minecraft, has made its name on the Xbox Live Arcade within a matter of 48 hours. It was announced recently that the game was able to make a profit after only one hour of being on the market. The game’s creator, Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, posted this fact on Twitter; along with his own enthusiasm for the game’s immediate success. “Hey, Microsoft! You might be a big and scary American company that likes secrets and meetings and such, but I love working with you!” he added, in true ‘Notch’ fashion.

Total sales numbers of Minecraft have not been released, but initial estimates point to 400,000 copies sold within the first 24 hours (on top of the five million copies already sold on PC). In addition to profiting within a mere hour, it was also revealed that Minecraft managed to break every conceivable record on XBLA. The last game to receive these honors was Trials: Evolution, released last month.
