Minecraft gets IGF Nominations, Content Patch Next Week

It’s starting to become ridiculous that one of the most interesting games I’ve played in the past year is only just out of the Alpha phase, but as long as that means the game keeps getting better, I find it hard to complain. The Independent Games Festival has taken notice too, and has nominated Minecraft for Grand Prize, Technical Excellence, and Excellence In Design. Big congratulations are in order to the small-but-growing crew over at Mojang Specifications, and we certainly wish them luck.

In an announcement today on his blog, creator Notch also mentioned that a substantial content patch should be on the way sometime next week. It should feature a new water mob, and maybe paint (!!!), as well as “a whole pile of fun new toys”. Are you excited? I’m excited.
